Day by day itinerary

1day

Arrival in Irkutsk.

Welcome to Irkutsk – capital of Eastern Siberia! We will meet you in the airport or railway station.

City tour.  

Irkutsk is Siberian city founded 350 years ago and having over 700 historical and cultural landmarks.

During sightseeing tour, you will see the main sights of Irkutsk: historical start of Irkutsk city – place of construction of Irkutsk dungeon, Spassky Church, Znamensky Nunnery, admiral Kolchak monument, Karl Marx street, Kirov public garden, Gagarin boulevard and 130th block.

Lunch at a city restaurant. 

Arrive at a hotel in Irkutsk. Check-in.

2day

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Check-out. 

Departure to Listvyanka (65 km from Irkutsk, travel will take 1 hour).

Listvyanka is Siberian village located on southern coast of Baikal Lake, at the source of Angara – the only river flowing from this unique lake.

Listvyanka is justly considered as the center of tourism on Baikal. There is harmonious combination of endless mirror-like surface of the great lake, pictorial hills covered by softwood forest, rural houses and modern hotels.

Visit to the architectural and ethnographical museum “Taltsy”.

You will visit outdoor museum complex located in the pictorial environment, by the side of Angara River. Unique historical, architectural and ethnographical landmarks dated back to XVII – XX centuries are collected in the museum.

Lunch at a restaurant in Listvyanka. You’ll enjoy Baikal fish dishes.

Visit to the Baikal Museum.

You will get acquainted with inhabitants of Baikal underwater world: Baikal seal (nerpa), omul, umber, sturgeon dwelling in unique aquarium where natural Baikal water taken from over 400 meters depth is used.

You will also make virtual immersion in the bathyscaphe to the bottom of Baikal, to its maximum depth – 1637 meters.

Rising by the ropeway to the observation platform of Czerski Stone (728 meters height).

There is amazing panoramic view to Baikal Lake, source of Angara and Chamar-Daban mountains.

Viewing trip in Listvyanka.

Within sightseeing tour, you will visit observation platform opposite Shaman-Stone and will learn a legend about Baikal and his daughter Angara, visit St. Nicholas Church built in XVIII century.

Visit to the local fish and gifts market.

Return to the hotel in Irkutsk.

3day

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Check-out. 

Departure to Olkhon island (250 km from Irkutsk, travel will take about 5 hours).

The biggest island of Baikal located in the central part of the lake. Unique nature of the lake has various landscapes and marvelous sceneries: spacious hilly steppes, pine woods and pictorial rocks.

There are plenty of archeological landmarks and ancient legends connected with Olkhon Island.

Arrival in Sakhurta village. Ferry to Olkhon island.

Arrival in Olkhon island. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in. 

Lunch at the hotel restaurant.

Hiking to Shamanka Rock

Shamanka Rock is a landmark of Baikal Lake and Olchon Island. It is natural and historical landmark as well as sacral place for locals. This rock is one of nine great sacred objects of Asia.

Return to the hotel.

4day

Breakfast at the hotel restaurnt. 

Trip to Khoboy Cape

Travelling by SUV at the northern part of the island you will see the most beautiful locations, natural landmarks and religious places.

Arrival to Khoboy Cape – the most northern point of Olchon Island; there is panoramic view to Baikal opening from there.

Picnic with Baikal fish soup.

Return to the hotel.

5day

Brekfast at the hotel restaurant. Check-out. 

Transfer to the pier. Departure to Ust Barguzin by boat. 

Arrival in Ust Barguzin.

Fishing village located on the shore of Barguzin gulf which is the biggest gulf of Baikal Lake having 700 km2 area. Sandy bottom, warm water and amazing landscapes make Barguzin gulf perfect and unforgettable place for relax.

Transfer to homestay. Check-in.

Dinner at the homestay.

6day

Breakfast at the homestay. 

Departure to Monakhovo village (75 km from Ust-Barguzin).

You will drive by SUVs through sandy “tongue” dividing two biggest gulfs of Baikal Lake: Barguzin Gulf and Chivyrkuy Gulf. During the trip, you will enjoy beauty of Zabaikalsky National Park and Saint Nose Peninsula.

Trip in Chivyrkuy Gulf by motor ship

One of the most interesting and attractive in Baikal region. It is pictorial and far bulging coast of Baikal (25 km) Eastern and western shores of the gulf are surrounded by high rocks and form a lot of small bays well protected from winds. Beach are sandy, and in summer water is warming-up well.

Visiting Snail Bay and bathing in hot springs

Water temperature in hot springs varies from 40°С to 60°C. Water in the springs is hydrogen sulfide, fluorine and soda rich. Hot springs were used by the locals for curing disorders of locomotive system.

Picnic with Baikal fish soup.

Return to homestay in Ust Barguzin.

Departure to Ulan Ude (270 км от Усть-Баргузина).

Visit to Sretensky female monastery at Baturino village.

Первый и единственный женский монастырь в Бурятии. Живописное место, окруженное высокими лесными холмами.

Arrival in Ulan Ude. 

Viewing trip in Ulan-Ude

Ulan-Ude is the capital of the Republic of Buryatia and one of the most important transport hubs of Trans-Siberian Railway. The city can boast of three-hundred-year history and cultural originality.

During viewing trip, you will see the main sights of Ulan-Ude: High Uda burg, Odigitrievsky Cathedral, the square of Revolution and the square of the Soviets.

Arrive at a hotel in Ulan Ude. Check-in. 

8day

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. 

Trip to Ivolginsky Datsan (30 km from Ulan-Ude).

Center of Buddhism in Russia. During the trip, you will be able to visit acting temples and see morning service, to visit library with unique collection of Buddhist literature.

Lunch at a city restaurant. You’ll enjoy Buryat cuisine dishes.

Excursion to Ulan-Ude Ethnographic Museum

One of the biggest outdoor museums in Russia taking area of 37 hectares. Tribes and peoples living on the territory of Buryatia during thousands years left a huge number of landmarks. Museum exposition is formed according to the principle of complex demonstration of ethnical groups living in the past and present in Buryatia.

Visiting old believers’ village (75 km from Ulan-Ude)

In the mid XVIII century, 20,000 families were resettled to Siberia. In the most remote locations of Buryatia, old believers founded their settlements, kept their dialect, religion and traditions. You will visit old believers’ homes, get acquainted with their housekeeping and see musical show performed by the locals.

Dinner at the old believers’ village.   

Return to the hotel.
